Valentine's Day: you either love it or you hate it. I know everyone has their reasoning for why they do or do not love the holiday.

I've heard a lot of people say that it's just an excuse for companies to make money, that we should show the people we love how much they mean to us all throughout the year, etc. etc. I do understand that aspect of it, but I lean on the side of absolutely loving Valentine's Day.
I love love and all of the cheesiness that comes with it. Sign me up for the cards, the chocolate covered strawberries, and little ways to make sure those around you feel a little extra loved that day. Since we homeschool, we don't really get the chance to have a Valentine's Day party, so instead, we always bring treats to everyone on staff at our church. It's a tradition that we all love and look forward to.

As much as I love Valentine's Day, I've never really decorated for it. Our fireplace mantle is completely decked out for Christmas, then the month of January rolls around and it's so sad. We decided to change that this year!
I wanted our mantle to have a simple, cute banner, and wanted to do it on a budget. I sat down and finished this Valentine's Day Banner in about an hour and a half--perfect for a nap time craft! So let's get started.
Supplies for your budget friendly Valentine's Day Banner:
Felt (Linking a 60 piece pack, but I got 3 pieces for $0.32 a piece at Walmart)
Pen, marker, or chalk to trace
Steps to make your banner:
To cut my hearts, I folded my felt rectangles in half and cut 2 hearts. After I had the two hearts to use as a pattern, I traced the hearts, making 8 total.
After all of your hearts are cut out, take your yarn and thread your needle. I needed about 3 ft. of yarn for all of my hearts, but depending on the size hearts you cut out, you'll need more or less.
Using a running stitch, begin to make a border around your hearts. If you aren't familiar with stitches, this would be your typical "up, down" stitch, and youtube is your friend.
After completing all of your stitching, measure how long you'd like your banner on your mantle or wherever you're putting it.
Space out hearts according to the length of your yarn and hot glue the back to the yarn.
Hang up and enjoy!
Not only is this banner budget friendly, your kiddos can easily get involved too! If you make this for your family, tag us on Instagram (@freerangefarmhouse) or leave a comment below!
