You want to make bread, but don't know where to start! I get it. I've been there. There are so many recipes, so many methods, and so many new definitions when you start going down the rabbit hole. I know it can be overwhelming, so I have created a list of my favorite things that I use and love to bake sourdough bread!

First things first, you need a Food Scale. As I write this, the one I linked is on major sale! A food scale changes the game for your sourdough journey. I used to feed my starter 1/2 cup of flour and 1/2 cup of water. The problem with this is that they don't weigh the same. Being able to weigh your ingredients makes it so much easier!

Second, you'll need a dutch oven. I love my Lodge Dutch Oven! There are so many colors to choose from and the quality is unmatched. Baking in a dutch oven is so easy and takes away all of the guessing. It gets so hot that it's able to bake the bread all the way through and form the most delicious crust! And don't forget your Parchment Paper!

The last thing you'll need is a Sourdough Starter Kit. This kit comes with your banneton proofing baskets, your lame scoring utensil, whisk, and dough scraper. You can purchase all of these things individually, but I bought a starter kit similar to this one and have been so impressed with the quality! The original kit I purchased is currently out of stock, but this one includes the silicone bread slings, which are such a great addition!

These aren't necessary, but if you're anything like me and like to share your bread, these Bread Bags have been perfect for gifting to friends and family!

Remember that there are so many methods, so many recipes, and so many ways to do this. The good news is that you've said yes, and that's the first step on your sourdough journey! You're one step closer than you were yesterday to making fresh bread for your family! If you use or try any of these tools, leave a comment and let me know, or tag me on instagram!
