When we first moved into our house, I wanted to experience every single holiday at it's fullest. We had waited so long for our house to actually be finished that when it was finally move-in ready, I was more than ready.
One of my favorite things about our house is our wraparound porch. Growing up, I would always look at and admire porches. Back then, it was from the perspective of, "I bet that porch would be great for prom pictures." Now however, I admire a porch for the story it tells.
If a porch has rocking chairs, I'm imagining a couple sitting, dreaming, and growing together over a cup of coffee. If there are toys in random places, I'm imagining kids that are able to run around and enjoy themselves in the place they're most comfortable in. If there are a bunch of plants on your porch, I'm thinking you're a natural with maintenance and aren't afraid to take on the extra care. (Speaking of, I need to go water mine).
I love looking at porches decorated for fall. I love the pumpkins, the greenery, the creativity....but if you aren't careful, these things can get expensive really fast! These are some of my favorite ways to decorate our porch on a budget.
I love the look of cornstalks on a porch! Cornstalks are inexpensive and can be found at your local nursery or sometimes even grocery stores. Where we are in GA, they're around $10 a stalk and have lasted us around 6-8 weeks, depending on when we're decorating.

Next up, I know we have to have pumpkins. I'm a sucker for a mix of classic pumpkins and heirloom pumpkins. When you're looking for your pumpkins, look for all different kinds of shapes and sizes, then you can play around with the placement once you're home. We have found these from anywhere between $5 and $20 depending on where you're getting them from. I love to shop small and support local businesses. I also really love a good deal. Our local Kroger has had small pumpkins for $5 and heirloom for $7...I'll take that deal!

You know you're in the South when you're decorating with a bale of hay. This can also be found at a local nursery, Tractor Supply, hardware store, feed store...so many options! This is such an affordable way to create dimension on your porch.

For more levels and dimension, I used an old stool that held a mum. Then I layered a simple buffalo rug with a classic coil rug. There are so many different options when it comes to this, and I play around with it every year. I still use the same inspiration: corn stalks, hay, and pumpkins, then add and take away with what I have at home.
